Cat's Story (150 words)If eyes are the mirror to the soul, a cat’s eyes are mirrors to the universe. I crossed paths with a woman who showed me a cat in her car. I saw a dilute tortoiseshell with large eyes, yelling to me, “Help me!” The woman put “Sheena” into a carrier, and said good-bye. When I took her home, Sheena sped out of the carrier hissing and spitting at me. I realized I had taken in a feral cat. All I could do was put a screen up at the door so Sheena would hiss whenever my cats or I walked by. Then one day, while sitting in my office chair, Sheena jumped over that screen, walked over and jumped on my lap. She was home. That day I took her picture in the garden, I could see the universe in her eyes, and this time the words said, “I love you.”
