Description of what this piece of art means to the artist
Karrington's artwork reflects a hand reaching down to operate on a heart. As Karrington is getting older, she often notices her scar on her chest when she looks in the mirror. Karrington calls it her "miracle mark," and often proclaims that her heart has been healed. Although her artistic ability is underdeveloped, Karrington put her all into this drawing, with her original design and well-thought out organization of it, by attempting to trace her right hand in violet-red, and her "brave" heart with stitches in purple. Karrington has 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome (otherwise known as DiGeorge Syndrome), which was manifested by her Congenital Heart Defects at birth and developmental delays. Despite her heart murmur after having had Atrial and Ventricular Septal Defect repairs, Karrington is a thriving and loving four year old little girl, who recognizes that she is more than a conqueror and a mighty overcomer. We are forever grateful to the Mended Little Hearts program, who, through their care and support, wrapped in a thoughtful "Bravery Bag," provided the strength and encouragement that was needed throughout Karrington's healing process and beyond. Her lion and her "Heart Hero" cape are proudly displayed in her bedroom, and signify that a miracle has taken place in her precious life. Through Karrington's drawing, the phrase "hand over heart" takes on a much more profound meaning, one that will ever signify the beauty in her "Mended Little Heart."
