Pet's StoryThis is Trek. He is a healthy four and a half year old German Shepherd today, but he hasn't always been that way. He was born with a congenital condition called canine mega-esophagus (Mega-E). There is no cure for this condition, thus euthanasia is commonly recommended. Needless to say I wasn't comfortable euthanizing my newly acquired puppy. Before making that decision we researched the condition and found that sometimes those with the congenital form of Mega-E will outgrow the condition. After a year of spoon feeding special meals 4X/day, holding him up right following each meal, and many ups and downs along his journey to health, he became one of the lucky ones that outgrew the condition. We feel incredible fortunate that he thrived and survived. He's grown into a healthy, energetic, fun-loving dog; it's hard to imagine a life without him! He's from Germany. I named him Trek for his 'trek' across the world that likely ensured his survival. :)
