Pet's Story
I fell in love with Abbie in 2019, while dropping off a few things at Baypath. We had just lost our beloved Doug, a beagle mix. It was too soon, and we were in the process of relocating. A few months later when we were settled in our new home in Plymouth. I saw Abbie’s picture on Petfinder. I confirmed that it was the sweet little girl I had met a few months ago, and said we would be there the next day to bring her home with us. We didn’t know until the day we picked her up that she was 8-10 years old (our vet thought ten). She had clearly been someone’s pet as she was spayed and had her dewclaws removed. She was found roaming the streets in Kentucky, and placed in a prison program where inmates were matched with dogs. They were unable to address her chronic ear infections and she was sent to Baypath. She was adopted and returned to the shelter through no fault of her own (or of the adopters). She clearly had abandonment issues. At first, she was glued to me, but quickly became daddy’s little girl and cancer support dog. She still buries treats she may not want just yet under pillows and blankets, but is well known in our community for her happy howl and wagging tail. She’s the best dog ever!
