Full Name of Your Superstar Nominee
Yo Haugabook
What makes your nominee a superstar? Examples can include what makes them special, how they embrace what makes them unique, and what they do to inspire and empower the community
Yo is a superstar in every area of her life. She is the type of person that makes every single person in the room feel good about themselves because she is always making time for others and giving them praise. She embodies trying new things and tackling challenges. Last year she went from couch to marathon, completing milestone after milestone that culminated in the Every Women's Marathon. This year, she founded a new BIPOC trail running community called Sin Miedo, which translates to "without fear".
How has your nominee engaged with Girls on the Run OR how have they inspired girls to be joyful, healthy and confident?
Yo got involved with GOTR this year. She joined us for our Girls on the Rise event in March, and completed her first GOTR 5K with us in May. Since then, you can regularly see her sporting her purple GOTR t-shirt. She has also helped a local runner that is raising money for the NYC chapter for the NYC Marathon by partnering with her on wellness fundraising pop up events. In general, Yo promotes inclusivity. She is a proud Latina, and she is consistently supporting and promoting members of the Latino community. Her husband is a member of Black Men Run. Yo regularly joins their group activities and supports the Black community. When it comes to running, she wants everyone to find the power and healing that comes through movement, so she encourages everyone to joining the running community, no matter their pace. When she created Sin Miedo, it was to create a space where BIPOC runners can come together to move, connect, build community, and be present with each other and with the land.
