Your Profile
I began painting in 2006 after retiring from IBM and moving to the Sandhills. However, I had a lifelong exposure to art and art appreciation through my grandmothers, one of whom was a painter and miniaturist, with a career in surgical illustration at Johns Hopkins and the Mayo Clinic. My great, great uncle was the noted American Impressionist landscape painter, L. H. Meakin. After retirement I was ready to express this love of art through my own efforts. I have taken many classes and workshops at the Artists League of the Sandhills and elsewhere. Painting gives me great joy. I can lose myself in the process for hours at a time. I am a member of the Artists League, and maintain a studio there as well as in my home.
The Story Behind My America
While I have travelled the world extensively, some of the most magnificent vistas are right here in America. We are so fortunate to have had leaders who had the insight to form the National Park system. My painting, “Zion Majesty” is from a car trip that included not only Zion National Park, but also Bryce Canyon, Canyon Lands, Capitol Reef, the north and south rims of the Grand Canyon, Arches, Monument Valley and the Sedona area including Montezuma’s Castle. It was one of our favorite trips. See America!
