Your Profile
Beverly Brookhart, a retired psychotherapist who is also a master knitter, started painting after being diagnosed with SLE Lupus in 2014. Beverly lives in North Carolina with her husband and has studied art with many of the area’s leading artists and instructors. She paints using multiple different mediums and focuses mainly on portraits and landscapes. Her oil painting of a “dust-off” helicopter in Vietnam won an honorable mention in the 2017 Sanford Brush and Palette Club show. Beverly is a relatively new painter, with her full potential only starting to emerge. “There is an artist within each of us waiting to emerge.”
The Story Behind My America
This painting depicts a Dust-off helicopter making a run to drop off a wounded soldier. My husband, CW3 (Ret) Gareth Brookhart flew as a medic crew member on these missions in Vietnam and flew with the 101st Abn during Hamburger Hill. The dust-off helicopters had no fire power and made many dangerous rescues of men who were wounded.
