Your Profile
The arts have been in my family for generations whether in music, photography, singing or fine art. Drawing progressed to my first oil painting at age 12. My high school teachers would come to art class offering to purchase some of my art pieces. Ultimately, a higher level of education in art was interrupted by my duty to "Uncle Sam." The U.S. Army gave me the opportunity to draw caricatures of my platoon buddies. These caricatures made it back home, and I still have these sketches today. Over the next 36 years, only sporadic drawings emerged. Then in 2006 with "gentle prodding" by my wife, Joanne, encouragement from my family and friends, sketching led to watercolor and finally oil painting. Realizing I had forgotten more about oil painting than remembered, I sought out the assistance of Frank Pierce, of Eye Candy Gallery, who agreed to coach me starting with the basics. This is where VISIONS by Conrad...thought provoking art was born! You can view my work at www.visionsbyconrad.com. The Story Behind Your Painting
The motivation behind this composition is the acknowledgement that women have made significant contributions to America's freedom. As America struggled for independence in the late 1700's, women not only took up arms with their husbands, fathers, and sons, they also tended to the wounded. Through America's conflicts, including our own Civil War, women have made many contributions on the battlefield as well as at home. Today, the above statement is even more relevant. Women, like the combat medic in this painting, along with all our military, are in harm's way every day. This representation of the Statue of Liberty and medic, also symbolize the many women and men serving in our nation's police, fire departments and first medical responders. The military and public servants are our nation's best and bravest. Without them, WE would not enjoy the security and freedoms many have given their lives for. This painting honor's all that serve our country, including those waiting the safe return of their loved ones. Remember...freedom is never free!
