Your Profile
Over the years I’ve taken classes and dabbled in every imaginable artistic medium. It wasn’t until we moved to Southern Pines a couple of years ago, though, that I had enough time to focus on my artistic pursuits and gain a bit of confidence. The great classes and the camaraderie of the members and fellow students at the Artists League of the Sandhills have been truly inspirational. They have helped me grow to the point that I no longer feel a complete fraud when my friends call me an artist, the ultimate compliment.
The Story Behind Your Painting
Years ago, before 9/11 and so much restricted air space, I flew into Washington, DC on the evening of July 4th. Our approach to Reagan National took us right down the Potomac River with the Washington Monument, the White House and the Capitol, all lit up, in view from the left side of the plane where I was seated. All of a sudden the Fourth of July fireworks display began! We flew right alongside and at almost the same altitude as that incredible show – a truly memorable, goosebump-raising experience. Patriotism is part of my DNA being the granddaughter, daughter and wife of career veterans, but that Independence Day is one I’ll remember till I die. This piece attempts to recapture that thrill.
