The Story Behind Your Painting
“Gone, but Not Forgotten.” The USS Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo was the last of the “Forty-one for Freedom” US Navy Fleet of Ballistic Missile submarines to be decommissioned. The “Forty-one for Freedom” submarines were built for and served as nuclear deterrence during the Cold War. The Sail of the Vallejo is part of a memorial at the Mare Island Museum, Vallejo, California. This painting is dedicated to the men who served on the Vallejo.
