Your Profile
The Stroke of Patriotism connection: A friend of mine Manuela, an artist and teacher works with people at a Cancer Center in Charlotte North Carolina, I invited her to encourage her students to make a piece for the Stroke of Patriotism. They agreed and 6 pieces where created by them. In 2013 I started on a journey to create the Disappearing Frogs Project.org and through art, create awareness (invite Biologists to speak) and inspire others to take action about frog extinctions (by donating art to be sold) . I am an artist and care a great deal about the health of our planet and neighborhood. I collaborate with other artists in different disciplines. Last year this project occurred in the Southern Pines and Aberdeen areas and Adele Buytenhuis invited many of her colleagues and friends to take part in the DFP exhibitions. Two State Parks, and several other events ensued. The latest interpretation called the Precious Frogs Projects is currently in Vancouver BC. It will run through December of 2017 and will benefit the Amphibian Survival Alliance.org
The Story Behind Your Painting
"Why participate in the Stroke of Patriotism contest?" This is the question I asked myself. When we experience a personal connection to people who are in need, it becomes very easy to jump in and participate. Adele Buytenhuys made sure I understood the urgent need behind this fundraising project. I felt I would be able to connect and contribute to the serious issues that so many returning veterans and their families face. The frog symbolizes my way of being a good patriot by doing my part on environmental issues and caring for our most vulnerable creatures.
