Your ProfileI am a mixed media artist based in Pinehurst. I create colorful, textured pieces in an intuitive and spontaneous way using many different combinations of materials and water-based media. The Story Behind Your PaintingMerriam Webster defines Patriotism as “devoted love, support and defense of one’s country; national loyalty.” I have been working on a series of heart pieces this year, and this piece is an extension of that work. This canvas was toted around and signatures were collected from active and retired military men and women who signed the flag on the red stripes in red pen. The heart represents the love of our country, and the signatures represent the support and defense of our country. The words courage, strength, love, service, duty, patriotism, and honor are written in molding paste on the blue field, as these are the characteristics of the service men and women who embody a patriotic heart.
